PREPARING FOR YOUR TREATMENT

One Week Before Treatment

  1. Avoid Blood-Thinning Agents:

    • If approved by your healthcare provider, stop taking medications and supplements that can thin the blood, such as:

      • Aspirin, ibuprofen (Advil, Motrin), naproxen (Aleve).

      • Fish oil, vitamin E, ginkgo biloba, St. John’s wort, or other herbal supplements.

    • Tylenol (acetaminophen) can be used as an alternative for pain relief if needed.

  2. Limit Alcohol:

    • Avoid alcohol consumption for at least 24-48 hours before your appointment to reduce the risk of bruising.

  3. Pause Skin Treatments:

    • Avoid chemical peels, microdermabrasion, or other facial treatments that could irritate the skin.

Three Days Before Treatment

  1. No Waxing or Hair Removal:

    • Refrain from waxing, threading, or using depilatory creams in the treatment area.

  2. Stop Using Certain Skincare Products:

    • Discontinue retinoids, exfoliants, or other products that may make your skin sensitive.

Day of Treatment

  1. Arrive with Clean Skin:

    • Wash your face with a gentle cleanser and avoid applying makeup, lotion, sunscreen, or any skincare products on the day of your treatment.

  2. Stay Hydrated:

    • Drink plenty of water to keep your skin hydrated, as this can help optimize results.

  3. Avoid Exercise:

    • Do not engage in strenuous exercise or activities that may elevate your heart rate prior to your treatment.

  4. Health Considerations:

    • Inform our team if you:

      • Are pregnant, breastfeeding, or planning to become pregnant.

      • Have a history of neuromuscular disorders or allergies to botulinum toxin.

      • Are taking any medications, particularly antibiotics or blood thinners.

Additional Notes

  • Bruising and swelling are common after Botox treatment. Following these pre-care instructions will help minimize these effects.

  • If this is your first Botox session, prepare any questions you may have for our provider during your consultation.

CARING FOR YOURSELF POST-PROCEDURE

Immediately After Treatment

  1. Do Not Touch or Rub the Treated Area:

    • Avoid touching, rubbing, or massaging the injection sites for at least 24 hours to prevent the Botox from spreading to unintended areas.

  2. Keep Your Head Upright:

    • Remain upright for at least 4 hours after your treatment. Avoid lying down or bending over during this time.

First 24 Hours

  1. Avoid Makeup and Skincare Products:

    • Refrain from applying makeup, creams, or other skincare products on the treated area for at least 24 hours.

  2. No Exercise or Heat Exposure:

    • Avoid strenuous exercise, saunas, hot tubs, or steam rooms, as increased blood flow can reduce the effectiveness of the treatment.

  3. Limit Alcohol:

    • Avoid alcohol consumption, as it may increase the risk of bruising.

First Week

  1. Be Gentle with Your Skin:

    • Use gentle cleansers and moisturizers on your face. Avoid exfoliating products or harsh treatments.

  2. Avoid Facial Treatments:

    • Do not schedule facials, chemical peels, or laser treatments for at least 7-14 days after Botox.

What to Expect

  1. Mild Swelling or Bruising:

    • Minor redness, swelling, or bruising at the injection sites is normal and should resolve within a few days. You can use a cold compress to minimize discomfort.

  2. Onset of Results:

    • Botox results typically begin to appear within 3-5 days, with full effects visible at around 14 days.

Long-Term Care

  1. Avoid Sun Exposure:

    • Protect your skin with broad-spectrum sunscreen (SPF 30 or higher) daily to maintain results and reduce skin aging.

  2. Stay Hydrated and Healthy:

    • Drink plenty of water and maintain a healthy lifestyle for the best long-term results.
