PREPARING FOR YOUR TREATMENT

1-2 Weeks Before Treatment

  1. Avoid Blood-Thinning Agents:

    • If approved by your healthcare provider, avoid medications and supplements that can thin the blood, such as:

      • Aspirin, ibuprofen (Advil, Motrin), naproxen (Aleve), and other NSAIDs.

      • Fish oil, vitamin E, ginkgo biloba, garlic supplements, and St. John’s wort.

    • Tylenol (acetaminophen) is a safe alternative for pain relief.

  2. Limit Alcohol and Caffeine:

    • Avoid alcohol and excessive caffeine consumption for at least 24-48 hours before your appointment to minimize the risk of bruising.

  3. Pause Skin Treatments:

    • Refrain from scheduling chemical peels, microdermabrasion, or laser treatments on the area to be treated.

  4. Avoid Dental Procedures:

    • Schedule any dental treatments at least 2 weeks before or after your filler appointment to reduce the risk of filler migration or infection.

Three Days Before Treatment

  1. Avoid Hair Removal:

    • Do not wax, thread, or use depilatory creams on the treatment area.

  2. Stop Using Certain Products:

    • Discontinue the use of retinoids, alpha-hydroxy acids (AHAs), beta-hydroxy acids (BHAs), or exfoliating agents that may irritate the skin.

Day of Treatment

  1. Clean Skin:

    • Arrive with clean, makeup-free, and lotion-free skin. Avoid applying oils, sunscreen, or heavy creams to the treatment area.

  2. Stay Hydrated:

    • Drink plenty of water to keep your skin hydrated, which may improve treatment results.

  3. Avoid Strenuous Activity:

    • Do not engage in vigorous exercise before your appointment, as this can increase blood flow and the risk of bruising.

  4. Health Considerations:

    • Inform us if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, or have any allergies, especially to lidocaine or hyaluronic acid.

    • Notify us of any recent infections, skin conditions, or medical treatments.

Additional Notes

  • If you have a history of cold sores and the treatment area includes your lips, you may need an antiviral medication to prevent an outbreak.

  • Plan your treatment at least 2 weeks before any important social events to allow any potential swelling or bruising to subside.

CARING FOR YOURSELF POST-PROCEDURE

Immediately After Treatment

  1. Expect Mild Symptoms:

    • Temporary redness, swelling, tenderness, firmness, or bruising at the injection sites is normal and should resolve within a few days.

    • You may also feel small lumps or bumps under the skin, which will settle as the filler integrates.

  2. Apply Ice if Needed:

    • Use a cold compress or ice pack wrapped in a clean cloth to reduce swelling or discomfort. Avoid applying ice directly to the skin.

First 24-48 Hours

  1. Avoid Touching the Area:

    • Do not touch, rub, or massage the treated area unless directed by your provider. This helps prevent the filler from shifting.

  2. No Makeup or Skincare Products:

    • Refrain from applying makeup, creams, or other skincare products to the treated area for at least 24 hours.

  3. Stay Upright:

    • Sleep with your head elevated and avoid lying flat for the first night to minimize swelling.

  4. Avoid Alcohol and Intense Activity:

    • Do not consume alcohol or engage in strenuous exercise for 24-48 hours to reduce the risk of bruising and swelling.

  5. No Extreme Temperatures:

    • Avoid hot showers, saunas, steam rooms, or exposure to excessive heat or cold.

First Week After Treatment

  1. Minimize Sun Exposure:

    • Protect the treated area from the sun by wearing sunscreen (SPF 30 or higher) and avoiding prolonged exposure.

  2. Avoid Dental Procedures:

    • Schedule any dental treatments at least 2 weeks before or after your filler appointment to reduce the risk of filler migration or infection.

  3. No Exfoliation or Treatments:

    • Avoid chemical peels, laser treatments, or facial massages until your provider gives the green light.

Long-Term Care

  1. Hydration:

    • Stay well-hydrated to maintain the plump and hydrated look of your skin.
