A typical lip flip requires just 4 to 6 units of Botox®, significantly less than what’s used for other areas like the forehead (20 to 50 units). Because of this lower dosage and the high activity of the orbicularis oris muscle (which controls lip movement), the effects of a lip flip tend to fade faster—usually in 6 to 8 weeks.
Unlike areas like the forehead, where Botox® can last 3 to 4 months, the lips move constantly when talking, eating, and expressing emotions. This increased activity causes Botox® to break down more quickly, meaning touch-ups are needed sooner.
Is It Safe to Get a Lip Flip More Often?
Absolutely! Since a lip flip uses a small amount of Botox®, it does not completely freeze the muscle—only softens it. This means even with more frequent treatments, the risk of unwanted side effects, like difficulty drinking from a straw or speaking, remains low when done by a skilled injector.
