PREPARING FOR YOUR TREATMENT

One Week Before Treatment

  1. Avoid Sun Exposure:

    • Minimize direct sun exposure and wear a broad-spectrum sunscreen (SPF 30 or higher).

    • Avoid tanning beds or artificial tanning products.

  2. Discontinue Certain Products:

    • Stop using retinoids (e.g., Retin-A, Tretinoin), alpha-hydroxy acids (AHAs), beta-hydroxy acids (BHAs), and other exfoliating agents.

    • Avoid products with harsh chemicals, such as benzoyl peroxide, hydroquinone, or glycolic acid.

  3. No Aggressive Treatments:

    • Avoid chemical peels, laser treatments, or other facial treatments on the area to be treated.

  4. Stop Blood-Thinning Agents:

    • If approved by your healthcare provider, discontinue use of aspirin, ibuprofen, and supplements like fish oil, vitamin E, or ginkgo biloba to reduce the risk of bruising.

Three Days Before Treatment

  1. Avoid Hair Removal:

    • Do not wax, thread, or use depilatory creams on the treatment area.

  2. No Alcohol or Smoking:

    • Refrain from consuming alcohol or smoking, as these can impair healing and increase the risk of bruising.

  3. Stay Hydrated:

    • Drink plenty of water to keep your skin hydrated and ready for treatment.

Day of Treatment

  1. Clean Skin:

    • Arrive with a clean face, free of makeup, lotions, oils, or sunscreen.

    • Avoid applying any skincare products on the treatment area.

  2. Comfortable Attire:

    • Wear loose-fitting clothing if the treatment area is on the body to avoid irritation.

  3. Health Considerations:

    • Inform us if you:

      • Are pregnant, breastfeeding, or planning to become pregnant.

      • Have any skin conditions (e.g., eczema, psoriasis, or active acne) or recent infections in the treatment area.

      • Are taking medications such as isotretinoin (Accutane) or antibiotics, as these may require postponing the procedure.

Additional Notes

  • If you have a history of cold sores and the treatment area includes the face, you may need antiviral medication to prevent an outbreak.

  • Plan your treatment at least 1-2 weeks before any special events to allow for any potential redness or swelling to subside.

CARING FOR YOURSELF POST-PROCEDURE

Immediately After Treatment

  1. Redness and Sensitivity:

    • Mild redness, warmth, and slight swelling are normal and typically subside within 24-48 hours.

    • The skin may feel tight or like a mild sunburn.

  2. Do Not Touch the Skin:

    • Avoid touching, rubbing, or picking at the treated area to prevent infection or irritation.

  3. Cooling and Comfort:

    • If needed, use a cool compress to soothe the skin. Avoid applying ice directly to the treated area.

First 24-48 Hours

  1. Avoid Makeup and Skincare Products:

    • Do not apply makeup, sunscreen, or any skincare products unless specifically recommended by your provider.

    • Use only a gentle, hydrating cleanser and a soothing, non-comedogenic moisturizer.

  2. Avoid Sun Exposure:

    • Stay out of direct sunlight, and avoid tanning beds.

    • Apply a physical sunscreen (SPF 30 or higher) after the first 24 hours when it’s safe to do so.

  3. No Sweating or Heat:

    • Avoid saunas, hot tubs, steam rooms, or intense exercise that could cause sweating or overheating.

First Week After Treatment

  1. Gentle Skincare Routine:

    • Continue using mild cleansers and hydrating products to keep your skin moisturized.

    • Avoid retinoids, AHAs, BHAs, or other active ingredients until your provider advises resuming them.

  2. Peeling and Flaking:

    • You may experience mild flaking or dryness as the skin heals. Do not pick or peel the skin; let it slough off naturally.

  3. Avoid Exfoliation:

    • Do not use scrubs, chemical peels, or microdermabrasion for at least one week.

Hydration and Protection

  1. Drink Water:

    • Stay hydrated to support your skin’s healing process.

  2. Protect Your Skin:

    • Use a physical sunscreen (zinc or titanium dioxide) daily to protect the treated skin from UV damage.

Healing Timeline

  • Most redness and swelling should resolve within 2-3 days.

  • Collagen remodeling and full results may take 4-6 weeks, with continued improvement over several months.
